Background of organization-Vikas Sahyog Kendra (VSK) is a non-government, non-profit organization, established by a group of young and dynamic activists of technical and social background. VSK actively engaged with organizing marginalized at village to state level with adequate representation of women in realizing their rights and entitlements in accessing land and livelihood resources. The Organization started its work by community organization building & follow up of Sukha Mukti Abhiyan (Drought mitigation campaign) in Chattarpur and Latehar blocks of Palamau commissionaire in 1997. Most of the founder members of the VSK were associated with drought proofing program. Later this program was implemented in whole Palamau district from 1992 to 1996 by tripartite partnership of district administration, village community (Pani Panchayat) and Pani Chetna Manch (PCM) comprising NGO, social activists, researchers, and scientists. The PCM was constructed 140 water-harvesting structures in 125 villages. PCM also provided technical and social support to the forest department in the construction of water harvesting structures. Pani Chetna Manch transformed into Vikash Sahyog Kendra as a registered organization in 2000.
